Peeled Paint

Well, it was a revelation to learn about the peeled paint technique and I had fun substituting Vaporub. Thankyou to Liesbeth Fidder once again for an exciting project.

I started with a large tag and painted over it with the Lin Brown Limited Edition frescos. I then stamped with black archival using PA ID07 stamps.

I then smeared some Vaporub onto parts of it, thought that it was a good substitute for Vaseline. I painted over with Chutney and tried to hurry up the drying process with the heat gun which was typically stupid of me because it just melted it more!

Anyway, the morning after I rubbed it and got pleasing results. I grungepasted through a stencil. it is supposed to say "You really can do whatever you want" but I jiggled it round a bit.

Then I painted some flowers with Little Black Dress and added TG white fire. I painted another flower with Chartreuse and TGd it. I highlighted my lettering with TGold and white pen and added feathers to the "hat" of the shameless hussy at the top. 

I enjoyed playing and shall have another play with this technique. Thanks Liesbeth. Your work has been memorable.

Drippage n Spots

Another gorgeous week of sunshine and so, not so much crafting from me. I am an outdoor/fair weather girl and don't want to waste the beautiful summer.

However, Kates journal page project was calling to me and I loved the effect of the dots upon the random colours.
I think that I must be in a very defiant mood today, a bit  "come on world, chuck what you like at me" kinda day because of the clashing colours that I chose. London Bus, Smoked Paprika and Orchid.
I didn't gesso first because I didn't read all of Kates instructions this morning but will try it again and compare the difference.
I don't have any of the sequin waste so used a stencil for my dots.
My composition should have been the other way up but, because of the way that the image was facing I turned it round.
This image is my very favourite LP stamp.
Pleased with the results and going to play more on this theme. Thanks Kate, love your work.

Kraft and Black Card

I was looking for ideas recently when Joanne popped up with this simple but very effective idea for a card. As she says, no need for explanations about technique.

Sorry Paperartsy, I haven't for the first time ever used your stamps, but I did use Little Black Dress fresco paint which printed beautifully.
I used my new Traci Bautista heart stamps and a sentiment from somewhere? I also added 40 kisses, one for each year!

This is to be my ruby wedding anniversary card to my very special man. I was going to make him a medal but I ran out of time! Gosh, has he earned one?

Mixed media George

Yesterday I received an order from AFTH and a copy of the July August Somerset Studio. I was blown away by the work of Laly Mille.
I had one of those very rare times when I was driven and not afraid to strike out….sounds very dramatic but felt special.
I had taken a photo of my Grandson George the same afternoon and started by sketching this.
I then raided the bin for suitable paper to tear, typical of me.
Tore some up and started to put together a collage.

Then I started to build things up with PA fresco paints. knocking back with snowflake and washes in greens, blues and neutrals.

It was a ," goodness knows where I will end up" situation, and I ploughed on.

I added some alcohol inks straight from the bottle to my sky and grass and just kept adding paint.

I had even used script stamps for my foliage and went to bed at this stage of the work.

Next I built up the foreground with stamping and added a few paper flowers from a napkin. I added some colour in the background and stencilled some dots onto the flagstones for texture.

I then worked on George with derwent crayons, building up depth and shadow. Clare Lloyd taught me this on the PA blog.

If I follow the brief in Somerset Studio I will scribble my thoughts onto my work. not sure yet, but Sam Butler suggested to me that I copy my work, scribble on it and then decide….thankyou Twitter friends, this is what it is all about.

Gosh, this has been such an experience and I think that this is my proudest work to date. Am I trumpet blowing….I think that I am…..why not…only here once!

Art Doll, Ruby

Something completely different tonight from Penny on the PA blog. Set my mind whirring and once again untidying the just sorted craft room.

I got my inspiration from looking through my PA stamps and the first thing that I decided was to use the heart from HP1104EZ as my fabric bodice. Next I chose one of my fave faces from LP stamps, used the pen to form pleats for the skirt and a rather obvious boot. I made the skirt a bit flirty by folding some net and there was my art doll.
I painted some card with Chalk fresco paint and then brayered (good old Ellen Vargo) a background using Chartreuse and Beach Hut. I stamped another LP stamp with Cornflower Blue archival.
Before I assembled my doll, I painted over the images with Blood Orange which luckily is translucent.
A metal corner finished off the skirt and a few drops of stickles blinged it up a bit. I also roughly painted a border.
The doll is called Ruby because she represents my Ruby wedding which I will be celebrating on Sunday. I think that Ruby looks contented and even after 40 years is managing to maintain a flirty look which will keep her other half on his toes!!

Lin's Handmade Journal

What a fabulous idea from the lovely Lin Brown making a journal to carry around. Personalising it too is so special that I wanted one.
So I followed her instructions as best I could. This is the person who has never yet stuck properly to a recipe. I didn't have any canvas and can never wait to get stuff so I found some canvas -style fabric.
I used similar colours to Lin and had to use PA Chartreuse as it is still my fave!
I used greyboard and stuck to the 5x7 size.

The hardest bit was stamping onto the acetate. Because it slips, I found myself getting so far and then ruining it so this was my 3rd attempt.
I glued some gold lace as a panel down the front of the book and used wired ribbon for my spine.
I didn't have much in the way of decent paper to put inside so used a pile of envelopes instead. so I can make notes and store bits inside.
Thankyou Lin for setting me off again. I think that I would like to camp out in your craftroom!

Card Collage

I really enjoyed making this card last night. Liesbeth is a very inspiring designer and her method of colouring the card to stamp on means that you win a prize every time!

I followed her instructions using these colours.

When I got to the cutting out squares stage I decided not to stick them over the original stamped framework but to place them onto black card. I then kept mounting the pic using card that matched the fresco colours. Finally I used the whole side piece as a contrast to the squares.
