Circles body

Fired up once again by the New topic on the Paperartsy blog tonight, which is circles!
Love circles and include them in lots of my work....so get ready for post overload this fortnight!

I have always been fascinated by the way that our minds seek order and sense when looking at images! We sometimes see what we want to see and not what is actually there and we wrestle to relate words and images to our own experience and knowledge!

I selected an image from a magazine of a model and drew around parts of her with a circular lid.
I cut them out and arranged them onto a piece of manuscript.
I added some black circle stencilling with Archival and added a little script.
Finally, I scribbled around the circles and added a few freehand with my black stabilo pencil and went over the lines with a wet brush.
Some of you may think that I have lost the plot, but it was an exercise in placing the images and training the eye to look at what is really there. I know what I am on about anyway??

So, I am entering this into the PA challenge!

  1. I think I know what you mean too, lol! Whether I do understand fully or not doesn't matter though because I really love this although it bugs me a bit 'cos I can't fit the pieces together.....the full picture isn't there is it? ;-)

  4. Hazel, I love this! Circles is such a brilliant topic, isn't it - with endless possibilities artistically and philosophically? I always find any kind of collage really sets me thinking and so do circles. You always make me think and look, Hazel. I love your work. xx

  5. I understand exactly what you mean and I think you've made a beautiful piece of work to highlight your thoughts - I love the images against the black and white background and I also love that soft purple colour - it all works beautifully.

  6. Ooh, that's slightly spooked me - I love the thought process behind it and how our eyes put stories together from fragments… but I'm also getting a hit of how society has a tendency to separate women into their component parts or roles/functions rather than let them be whole human beings… That's what my eye put together at any rate!!
